Scope and content
A man surveys the peaceful waterway as he stands aboard the "Pacific Pearl," a floating cannery, on May 20, 1965. The shellfish processing plant, out of Seattle, is docked at Tacoma Boatbuilding. The cannery was formerly a 175-foot Coast Guard tender, the M.V. Hemlock, before being rebuilt. Sutterlin & Wendt, Inc., packers of northwest seafoods under the Pacific Pearl label, would be moving their cannery from Tacoma to Alaska. Photograph ordered by Northwest Advertising Co., Seattle.
