Looking like a thick accumulation of snow is actually alumina from which aluminum is made. This March 10, 1967, photograph is of the interior of the new Kaiser Dome located on Pier 7 in the Tacoma Tideflats. It is the Port of Tacoma's new alumina storage facility, part of a 1.6 million dollar bulk cargo improvement project. The dome is sheathed with aluminum and has timbered laminated ribs.
