Scope and content
Studio portrait of entertainer Rick Sprague. Rick Sprague was in the midst of his three-week engagement at the Bon Marche's Cascade Room at the time of this late May, 1968, studio portrait. The popular balladeer and guitarist was a recent graduate of the University of Puget Sound with majors in philosophy and music. He would attend Illif Seminary in Denver in the fall to become a minister. His father was the pastor of Kent Methodist Church but young Sprague did not want to be a traditional minister, stating that he did not have the patience required for pastoral ministry. His goal was to be an ordained minister whose congregation was nightclub and concert goers. He felt that he could reach people through his music who normally would not be present in a church setting or be interested in learning about the Christian way of life.
