Fire scene at the Monte Vista Guitar Shop. All that is left in the fire-gutted Monte Vista Guitar Shop is a tangled mess of musical instruments and equipment. An explosion followed by fire on January 3, 1969, demolished the entire front of the shop, located at 8324 South Tacoma Way, propelling debris, glass, and assorted musical instruments into the street. The building was fully engulfed when firefighters from six Lakewood-area trucks arrived and could not be saved. Shop owner Beni Benedetti was seriously injured with burns on his face and hands.
