In September of 1944, Sterling B. "Bud" MacDonald received the Les Weisfield Trophy from the Washington State Sports Council for "doing the most good for the benefit of the outdoors". He was named the tenth recipient of the trophy for his outstanding work for the council and on legislative bills in 1943. Bud started working part time for the Tacoma Sportsman's Association in 1936 while he was still driving a taxi cab. In 1942 he became the full time Secretary/ Treasurer of the club. For most of his adult life he was a devoted and active member of various conservation organizations in Tacoma/Pierce County. (T. Times, 9/18/44, p. 11).
