A group of Tacoma Times newspaper carriers wave from the passenger deck as they return to Tacoma from Camp Seymour on the ferry "Skansonia". The Skansonia was built in 1929 by the Skansie Drydock & Shipbuilding Company at Gig Harbor for the Point Defiance-Gig Harbor route of the Washington Navigation Company. She was a diesel ferry, 165 feet in length, with a capacity of 65 automobiles and 500 passengers. The Skansonia was launched August 24, 1929. (Gordon Newell, "Maritime Events of 1929-30", H.W.
