Scope and content

Portrait of Harry Sprinker. Harry Sprinker was the Pierce County Commissioner for 20 years. He was not elected when he ran for that office in 1946 but was elected to that post in 1948. He became known as "Mr. County Commissioner". He was chair of the Public Lands Committee of the National Association of County Officials and vice president of the Washington State Association of County Commissioners. He believed that citizens received more for their tax dollar from county governments than any other government. He was born in Hellinwood, Kansas in 1896 and died in Tacoma in 1991 at the age of 85.
