Scope and content

ca. 1946. This is a view of Gravelly Lake as seen through the trees on the extensive grounds of the Wayne W. Keyes property circa 1946. Mr. Keyes, a prominent local attorney for many years, had purchased in 1921 the formerly named "Sunnybank" residence built for Charles A. Foster located at 11437 Gravelly Lake Dr. S.W. in the Lakes District. The gardens of the now named Keyes Mansion were opened occasionally for tours benefiting charitable causes. The Keyes Mansion appeared in the film, "Eleanor & Franklin," serving as the Roosevelts' summer "cottage" at Campobello. It was demolished in 1981 after being vacant since the death of Mrs. Keyes in 1969.
