Scope and content

Three unidentified women and eleven well bundled youngsters played in the snow covering the ground outside the child care center at the American Lake Gardens Housing project on November 19, 1946. Snow started falling in the Tacoma - Pierce County region at 2 a.m. on Monday the 18th. By Tuesday afternoon, over 16.1 inches had fallen, an all time record for a 24 hour period in November. The American Lake Gardens was Tacoma's newest housing project. Located adjacent to Fort Lewis, the development was built to provide critically needed housing for the civilian employees of the War Department living in the Fort Lewis area.
