Scope and content
At 2 a.m. on Thursday May 15, 1947, 53 white-faced steer calves that were being unloaded from a truck at Carstens meat packing plant, on the tideflats, broke loose and took off down the railroad tracks toward town at high speed. The cattle, each weighing about 250 pounds, were soon stampeding throughout the city. After quite a chase, Sam Kimball (left) and Robert Miller, both taxi drivers, were able to catch one of the calves, and it was returned to Carstens. (T.Times, 5/15/1947, p.1)
