Scope and content
Cheyenne premiere at the Holly Theater in Medford, Oregon. Actor Alan Hale, Sr., center, in western garb with two other men. Ordered by Matt Freed of Medford Oregon on 6/11/1947. Three men, all wearing western shirts, two with cowboy hats, one holding onto Alan Hale's vest with a sheriff's badge on it. Versatile actor Alan Hale, Sr., was a character actor who appeared in hundreds of films in his 40-year career starting from the silent era. A few of his films included Robin Hood, Of Human Bondage, They Drive By Night, Destination Tokyo and The Sea Hawk. He also was an enthusiastic inventor, who is credited with inventing the folding theater seat and also had a hand in the invention of hand-held fire extinguishers and the greaseless potato chip. His son, Alan Hale, Jr., would follow in his footsteps making his greatest impression as "Skipper" in TV's Gilligan's Island. The motion picture "Cheyenne" would be directed by Raoul Walsh and starred, besides Hale, Arthur Kennedy, Dennis Morgan, Jane Wyman, and Tacoma's Janis Paige. A television show loosely patterned after the movie would run for several years on ABC starring Clint Walker. ALBUM 5.
