Benbow Lakes, Red Cross Aquatic School for the Northwest, 75 men and 56 women. The Red Cross Pierce County Chapter held a 10-day aquatic safety school with 131 men and women from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California and Montana at Benbow Lakes, Kapowsin, Washington. It was one of six such schools operated by the Red Cross in the United States. The canoe in this photograph has been identified as a Willits canoes, built by Earl and Floyd Willits at their shop on Day Island. The canoe features a full sailing rig also built by the brothers.
