Scope and content
In June of 1947, Charles E. and Violet J. Devlin adopted a three-month old baby girl, Penelope Jane Devlin. Charles was scheduled for a business trip the day after Penelope came. When he returned to his office, the staff had redecorated his office with a basinette and a clothesline of diapers stretched between two coat racks. Charles E. Devlin, known as the plywood man, was director of Douglas Fir Plywood Association. (T.Times, 6/28/1947, p.2)
