This informal shot of Ben R. Nichols shows the retiring purchasing agent at his desk in City Hall. Mr. Bennett R. Nichols would retire after 37 years service to the City of Tacoma on September 1, 1947. He went to work for Tacoma City Light in August of 1910. He became the City of Tacoma's first purchasing agent after the adoption of the new city charter in 1927. Mr. Nichols was succeeded in his post by another longtime City of Tacoma employee, Arthur M.
