Scope and content
This was how the interior of Tacoma Marine Supply's Dock Street warehouse looked in September of 1947. Veteran employee Dave Hanson was shown moving three heavy coils of cordage while J.D. Thompson, in charge of the hardware and machinery department, checked off the merchandise on a list. Tacoma Marine Supply was established fifty years earlier at the old Municipal Dock as a supplier to ships and of small boat equipment. By 1947, they had branched out into industrial supplies and tools, hardware, work and sport clothing, fishing supplies and supplies for outfitting ship builders and repair. The company had their main store at 11th and A, which handled both wholesale and retail business, and a warehouse on Dock Street. They had 15 employees and Arne Strom was president of the company.
