Scope and content

At 10:45 a.m. on September 12, 1947 an unidentified announcer sat at a small table, script in hand, reading into a microphone in Studio A of KTBI in Tacoma. KTBI had recently moved to 2715 Center Street from their previous location in the Puget Sound Bank Building. The small room through the window at the left is an announcing booth and recording studio. The "podium" in this room is actually the amplifier section for a 16 inch disc cutting turntable for making recordings. The room to the right is the studio control room. The 1,000 watt Western Electric transmitter can be seen against the back wall. Started in 1941, and originally owned by Tacoma Broadcasting, Inc., KTBI became KTAC in the early 1950s.
