The United States Post Office was celebrating the 30th Anniversary of airmail service. The nations first scheduled airmail route was established on May 15, 1918. Thee first airmail shipment covered 218 miles, between Washington D. C. and New York. Airmail shipments have increased in Tacoma, in 1926 there were 42 letters per day, today there are more than 25,000 letters per day.
