Scope and content
The Washington Harness Horse Association under the auspices of the Edward B. Rhodes Post No. 2, American Legion, held a double weekend of racing in July of 1948 at the Washington Harness half-mile track south of Tacoma on Hwy. 99. Horse #1 is caught in action rounding the fast track in an afternoon race with cheering spectators on hand. Its right front leg and left hind leg move forward in unison as it pulls the driver in a lightweight two-wheeled sulky. Licensed drivers during the meet ranged in age from 78-year-old Sam Askew to 15-year-old Jerry Buck. (TNT 7-11-48, B-3-article & various photographs) TPL-8283
