Scope and content
Home owners and community members, including the Tacoma Times, were deeply concerned with this open sewer run located near the neighborhoods on South 56th Street and South Proctor Street. This area is contaminated with filth, rats and disease carrying mosquitoes; just a few feet from here are the water wells, where many people draw their water from. City water is not yet available or does not reach many families in these neighborhoods. View of Tacoma Times pictorial editorial, raw sewage near South 56th Street and South Proctor Street neighborhood (T. Times, 7/37/48, p. 1). TPL-8823
