Scope and content
In this photograph from August of 1948, five Girl Scouts relax in one of the three shelters at St. Albans Girls' Camp by Lake Devereaux. The land for the camp was donated to the Girl Scouts by Mrs. W.W. Seymour in memory of her husband, an early mayor of Tacoma. The architect, Silas E. Nelson, donated his services for the design of the camps buildings. The young girl standing at the left, holding a cup, is Nita Rowland. The girl in the top bunk, flipping through the pages of a book, is Nancy Helman. The other three girls were not identified in the original News Tribune article.(T.N.T., 8/15/48, p. D-1).
