Scope and content
Hiway 99 & Goldau Road, Metzger, Blair, Gardner, BoIdt, Mr. Young. A view looking along Goldau Road as it crosses Highway 99 west of Fife city center. This area looks mostly rural. A stop sign stands near the intersection looking from this direction. A bus stop covering is seen to the left of the intersection with houses on both sides of the road. There is little foliage on the trees and shrubs to interfere with visibility. The house on the left has been identified as the first home of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kaelin and in 1948, the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Bisig. To the left of the house is a garage with a wood shed behind the garage. By 1916, the Kaelin family had moved across the road to a larger home they had built. The Kaelins were one of the many Swiss dairy farmers who settled in the Fife area. The former Kaelin home is now the property of HHJ Construction, Inc. An enlarged circa 1925 photograph of the Kaelin family, including three sons and a daughter, is on display behind the reception desk of HHJ Construction.
