On December 7, 1948 the City of Tacoma was preparing to drill a hole at Broadway Square for the 75-foot Christmas tree. Tacoma's fir tree was a gift from Fort Lewis authorities. View of Al Gasch holding jackhammer in center, city officials, and community representatives watch him as he gets ready to drill a hole in Broadway Square for the city Christmas tree.
