St. Regis was established in Tacoma in 1928, the New York firm purchased this industrial site, modernized it and began operations in 1936. St. Regis Paper Company is said to be the most modern pulp mill ever built. The Tacoma facilities are spread out over 65 acres, between the Puyallup River Waterway and the St. Paul Lumber Company.
