Scope and content
John Lee was one of two students from the Pacific Northwest chosen to work with the Byzantine Institute in Turkey for six months. John was working on the restoration of mosaic decorations on the interior walls at the Church of the Sainted Savior in Chora, near old Istanbul. John has just returned from his adventures and was able to bring back quite a collection, which includes six centuries old icons, gold and silver embroideries, antique brass candlesticks, an accordion-like lantern, urns, rugs, goats-hair robe, Meerschaum pipe and many other treasures (T. Times, 1/9/49, p. 20).
