Ben Cheney, left, and two unidentified men watch a huge log being sliced at one of the Cheney lumber mills in May of 1949. Ben Cheney's first mill was at National, Washington, near Eatonville. He later established mills at Willapa Harbor, Vancouver, Chehalis, and Tacoma. By 1959 new mills had also been established at Myrtle Point (near Coos Bay) and Central Point, Oregon, and Arcata, Pondosa, and Greenville, California.
