Six year old Katherine Kempf received some last minute alterations to her favorite dress before heading off for her very first day of school on September 1, 1936. Katherine was entering the first grade at the Navy Yard City School and her mother, Mrs. W. Kempf, was making sure that her outfit was just right for that special day.
