Scope and content
Harry Hartz (second from left), former automobile racing champion who was a traffic safety specialist at this time, was in Tacoma visiting officials interested in safety. He drove the 1949 Studebaker half-ton pickup truck from Puget Sound to the Great Lakes in a 8,000-mile safety crusade. He was welcomed by, L-R, Chief of Police Robert Marshall, James M. Gilchrist of the Allen Motor Company, Public Safety Commissioner Robert Temme, and A.E. Mulligan of the A.E. Mulligan Company. A map of the United States is displayed in the back of the pickup with the name Studebaker spelled out on it. A sign on the door of the cab says, "Studebaker, Writes its Name Across the Nation". Ordered by A.E. Mulligan and Allen Motor Companies. (TNT, 7/24/1949, p.C-10)
