Scope and content
ca. 1950. Dr. O. Harry Schrader, Managing Director of the Douglas Fir Plywood Association from 1949-1952. Dr. Schrader was serving on the faculty of the University of Washington when he accepted the post as Director. He was a highly trained forester and wood technologist who made many contributions to the plywood industry, most in the technical fields. He expanded the research foundation, which was financed by the mills through the Association and was responsible for developing new products and uses for fir plywood. He increased the number of field promotion representatives from 4 to 15. He encouraged the research of Dave Countryman, of the DFPA's laboratory staff, into the properties, and therefore, the limitations of plywood as a building material. In mid 1952, Dr. Schrader left the DFPA for a position with U.S. Plywood Corp. in Seattle. (" The Plywood Age" by Robert M. Cour)
