Scope and content
General Wainwright in Rudder Club, Keith Draper. General Jonathan M. Wainwright was returning to Tacoma to attend the dedication of the newly enlarged school in Fircrest that already bore his name. It had been four years since General Wainwright had visited Tacoma, not long after his return from a Japanese prisoner of war camp. He was a hero of the battle of Bataan and also led the defense of the island of Corregidor during World War II. During his visit to Tacoma he was to be honored by a public program at the Armory and a reception by the American Legion. (TNT, 11/6/1949, p.1)
