Scope and content

The idea of energy conservation is not new. Even in the days when energy costs were relatively low, people sought to save money by insulating their homes. In June of 1950, an unidentified insulation installer was photographed in the open attic of an older home holding the hose that delivered insulation into the area between the rafters of the house. He is wearing a mask to protect his mouth and nose from fibers and dust. The photograph was ordered by Mr. Lylich of Feltrok Insulation Manufacturing Company. Feltrok was a Tacoma based company located on the Tideflats at 2301 Taylor Way. They manufactured insulation for home and industrial use, employing about 35 persons. In 1952, Feltrok was purchased by the American Rock Wool Corporation.
