A man sits at the controls of one of the machines at Anacortes Veneer, Inc., Anacortes, Washington. Fir plywood had its beginnings in Oregon but it was the State of Washington that quickly took hold of the new industry and in 1910 the first plywood plant in Washington began production. Anacortes Veneer opened in 1939 on the site of the old Fidalgo Lumber & Box Company with Charles Carlson elected president, W.C. Herrick as vice president, Theodore Newell as secretary and Lyman R. Verhoeff as treasurer. Gus N. Arneson was general mamager of Anacortes Veneer, Inc., in 1955. Ordered by Douglas Fir Plywood Association. (The Plywood Age, Robert M. Cour)
