On Sunday July 3, 1938, Pat Birch of Tacoma crashed his American Eagle biplane after hitting a string of telephone wires at the east side of Mueller-Harkin Airport near the site of Clover Park Technical College. Birch crawled out of the cockpit and walked away from the crash with only a cut lip. (T.Times 7-4-1938 p.1)
