Scope and content

ca. 1953. On July 27, 1953, Nick's Boys' and Student Shop, an apparel shop for boys age two through high school, had its Grand Opening. It was soon a great success due to the appeal of areas, like the pictured Corral Room, to the young customers. The Corral Room was decorated with a western motif and contained seven hobby horses to keep the youngsters occupied while mom shopped. A little girl rides on a carrousel pony on the right hand side of the picture. Nick's was owned by Phil Friedman and named after his son. The store carried a wide variety of children's and young men's national name brands in all sizes. Elsie Kaasa was placed in charge of management and operation. Kiddies bringing adults to the Grand Opening received balloons, combs, rabbit's feet and lollipops. (TNT 7/26/1953, pg. A-4)
