Scope and content

This photograph of Lyman Peterson, Jr. appeared in the News Tribune on December 30, 1953 with the caption "A Star is Born." Lyman, described as popular, terrific and sensational, was appearing with the Walt Gunstrom Orchestra on New Years Eve and every Saturday night at the Century Ballroom. The admission cost was $1.00 plus tax for the evening of music and dance from 9:30p.m. - 2 a.m. The Century Ballroom was located on the SeaTac Highway 99 at the Fife Square. The Gunstrom orchestra played in the manner of Guy Lombardo. Even at this young age, Lyman had already made TV appearances and was used to the limelight. By 1956, Peterson was appearing at the New Yorker with the newly reorganizaed Al Mineo Band. This studio portrait of Lyman Peterson, Jr. with his drum set was ordered by Walter Gunstrom.
