Scope and content
Puyallup's own "Rock Nut," D.A. Burns, grinds a rock at his workbench housed in his service station. Mr. Burns is a member of the "Rock Nuts," the Tenino chapter of the Washington Agate and Mineral Society. He spends the weekends trudging the countryside with a sack slung over his back looking for rock specimens. During the week, he cuts, grinds and polishes them for settings for rings and brooches. As the proprietor of a service station, Mr. Burns decided to build his workshop at the station. He has a workbench with a shaft mounted its full length. On the shaft are cutting wheels, grinding wheels and polishing wheels. Mr. Burns made his water cooled cutting wheel, its cutting edge produced by diamond dust pounded into nicked edges of a metal disc. (T. times 8/7/1939, pg. 14)
