On October 11, 1939, the Pierce County Pioneer and Historical Society held their fall meeting in Steilacoom. Pictured standing in front of the Steilacoom Town Hall, 1715 Lafayette Street, dressed in period clothing are: (l to r) Mrs. Neil Rigney Henly; Mrs. Rose Rigney O'Donnell, her twin sister; Steilacoom Mayor W.E. Morris; Mrs. L.S. Tinkcom; and Mrs. W.E. Morris. The meeting was held on historic ground. Steilacoom was the first port on the upper Puget Sound with facilities for shipping. Between 1850-1858, it was home to the first territorial court and the first Protestant Church north of the Columbia river. Steilacoom was the first area north of the Columbia River to incorporate as a town and had the first public library. (T. Times 10/12/1939, pg. 12)
