Adam Benston plays the fiddle for his grandniece, five year old Jean Plewak, at the celebration for his 93rd birthday on November 26, 1939. Adam was born near Fort Nisqually in 1846. He learned to play the fiddle as a boy and provided the music for many pioneer gatherings. He was known as one of the foremost fiddlers in the Puget Sound area. When his children came along, he taught them music and the family soon formed a small ensemble that played at local entertainments. (Winston: "Early Spanaway"; T. Times 11/27/1939, pg. 14)
