Scope and content

An exuberant Frankie Walker, age 4, sits proudly on the small, two-wheel bicycle that he received for Christmas in 1939. He successfully rode his bike the second time he tried. Frankie, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Walker of 4608 So. "K" St., liked to ride as fast as he could, but he usually had to run into something in order to stop because he was not heavy enough to work the brakes. He would ride up and down the sidewalk in front of his home, weather permitting, much to the enjoyment of the patients residing at a local convalescent home nearby. (T. Times 1-29-1940 p.3)
