On Thursday morning May 9, 1940, Miss Emma Olsen foiled a daring attempt to rob the State Bank of Orting. Protected behind steel-faced, bullet-proof walls and shatter-proof glass, she locked the doors of the bank with a switch in the teller's cage, and kept the robber under cover with a gun kept in a drawer behind the teller's window until the police arrived.
