On May 9, 1940, bookkeeper Emma Olsen foiled an attempted robbery of the State Bank of Orting. After locking the bandit in the bank with her, Miss Olsen shows how she held a gun on the robber from behind a special window where a metal slot had been installed for this purpose. The bank had been redesigned to be robbery proof after a disastrous unsolved hold up in 1935 that left two police officers dead. (T. Times 5/9/1940, pg. 1)
