Scope and content

Progress photograph of house prior to remodeling, ordered by the Douglas Fir Plywood Association. This is 252 Broadway, later known as the Smith-Berliner building, built in 1885 by Myron Cogswell. Beginning in the spring of 1956, the residence was remodeled into offices by Philip Charles Norton, Architect, for Paul M. Smith and Mrs. Ruth Berliner. Smith and Berliner owned the Evergreen States Forest Products Co. The building was also occupied by Room Temp Lockers Co. and Udall Construction Co. Hardwood was used both on the interior and exterior during the remodel, for soffitts, sidewalls, ceilings and flooring squares. (TNT 10/14/1956, pg. C-16)
