Scope and content
McChord Field. Two-and-one-half story brick building with cross-gable roof and dormers. Seven million dollars had been spent so far in 1940 to build McChord Field. This building, perhaps offices or housing for officers, was part of the new construction. McChord was the U.S. Army's northwest airbase, about eight miles from Tacoma. Dedicated on July 3, 1940 before an audience of approximately 10,000, it was commanded by Col. Carlyle H. Wash. (T. Times 7-1-1940, p. 1-article on upcoming dedication)
