Scope and content
Peninsula and Bremerton communities celebrate the opening of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge with a fun-filled afternoon at Gig Harbor. The rooster races at Roosterville on Peacock Hill provided many chuckles. C. E. Shaw, trainer and promoter, started racing the White Leghorns in 1935. In 1938, the newsworthy entourage was invited to New York's Madison Square Garden where the stage-struck roosters ran one race before returning home. (T. Times, 7/3/1940, p. 1)
