Scope and content

ca. 1937. The caterers on the staff of "Dusty" Hoskin's Mecca Cafe go over the reservations for the Democratic Victory dinner, scheduled for March 4, 1937 at the Odd Fellows Hall. Pictured are, left to right, Charles Carlsen, Ole Wedeberg and Jack Fritz. The trio will be preparing the meal for the political dinner, where President F.D. Roosevelt will address the assemblage by radio hookup. The Mecca Cafe was located at 1152 Commerce. Steps led down to the entrance, since the restaurant was located below the street level. The Mecca was locally famous for their clam chowder. Photograph ordered by Hans Johnson. (T. Times 3/1/1937, pg. 5- picture; Mecca info from "A History of Pierce County" Vol. 3, pg. 73) (WSHS)
