Scope and content
President Jimmy Carter greets a crowd of several hundred persons on September 23, 1980, as he prepares to exit Air Force One at McChord Air Force Base. The President was on a two-day, four-state campaign swing which included a brief, activity-packed three-hour stay in Tacoma. President Carter was the ninth president to visit Tacoma while holding the nation's top office. The last president to visit was John F. Kennedy almost seventeen years before.
