Scope and content

A massive Christmas tree scrapes its crowning star on the ceiling of the Great Hall at Thornewood. Pierce County's own castle was built in 1910 based on a design by architect Kirtland Cutter. The Gothic Tudor home once graced a 100 acre estate, including 35 acres of gardens landscaped by the Olmsted brothers. The home was built by Chester and Anna Thorne, who named it "Thornewood."
