ca. 1929. Harry L. and Alpharetta Brown house. Exterior view of front and side of three-story house. Side bay features upper balustraded deck off double-doors. The English style home was built in 1925 for Mr. Brown and designed by E.J. Bresemann, architect. Brown's candy recipes spurred the founding of Brown & Haley, Inc., now world-renowned confectioners. Mrs. Helen McAnally's home at Magnolia Beach, Lot 3, Vashon Island. "Hot Coffee Ready." The home appears to be built just feet from the beach and has a wide front porch and lots of windows to take in the water view. Mrs. McAnally was the widow of Tacoma attorney Sam McAnally. She was nationally famous as a hostess and the celebrated would travel cross country by train and to the island by ferry to enjoy her hospitality. The beach house parties would continue over several days. Mrs. McAnally continued to hold her famous parties until she was in her eighties. Exterior of home of Reno & Edith Odlin at 610 No. Yakima Ave. The Odlins had purchased the home in October of 1936 and were capturing the structure covered in snow for next year's Christmas card. The modified Italian was built in 1926 by Charles W. Rhodes, who was both the owner and the architect. (WSHS)

ca. 1936. Estelle (Mrs. J.C.) Gould and daughter Jedell. Estelle sits on padded bench under arched window surrounded by wood spool design and holds a cat. Jedell stands on bench to left. The background appears to be the interior of the Yorktheimer mansion at 27 Broadway. The home was demolished in 1959 to make room for the construction of Belmont Terrace, an apartment building. The interiors were sold to Steve Pease who incorporated them into his restaurant "Steve's Gay 90's." Mrs. Gould was one of the Yorktheimers four daughters.

ca. 1936. Mrs. Charles Burkepile and four generations of family. Four generations are pictured in this ca. 1936 home portrait. All three women appear to be enjoying the baby's smiling face. The infant's mother is holding one hand while the grandmother carefully holds the baby in her lap. Great-grandmother stands behind the chair.

Major Albert H. Hooker of Hooker Chemical Company in reserve officer uniform and hat. Mr. Hooker retired from the Army as a Colonel and served in both World Wars. He was also a civic leader who was elected as a Tacoma city councilman and served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the University of Puget Sound. A son of one of the four founders of Hooker Chemical, he occupied the post of the company's western Sales Manager. He died at the age of 76 in May of 1971. At the time of his death, he and his wife Ellen resided at 4755 So 48th St. (TNT 5/24/1971, pg. 1)
