Crown Princess Martha of Norway on the campus of Pacific Lutheran College in May of 1939. She and her husband, the future Olav V, made a brief visit to the Tacoma area to the delight of the large Scandinavian population. Her escort in the above photograph was not identified. The Tacoma Times noted that public school children lined the streets of Parkland with flowers in their hands and sang the first stanza of the Norwegian national anthem.
