A 150-guest dinner party in honor of 89-year-old Alexander Baillie was held at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club in October of 1948. Mr. Baillie, on the left, is escorted at the banquet by Puget Sound National Bank president Reno Odlin, in the center, and businessman Audsley M. Fraser, right. Alexander Baillie was one of the founders in 1894 of the Tacoma Country & Golf Club and served as its first president. Recognized as the "father of golf in the west," he was responsible for the construction of the first golf course in Washington state. Mr. Fraser, also of Scottish descent, established Fraser's store in Lakewood in 1934. Fraser's carried gifts, glassware, linens, hosiery, gloves, dinnerware, silver, jewelry, leather goods, luggage, stationery and greeting cards. Both Mr. Baillie and Mr. Fraser are wearing Scottish clothing; kilts, knee socks, jackets and vests and sporrans (the pouches hanging from their waists.) Mr. Baillie has a traditional ruff at his neck while Mr. Fraser wears a collar and bow tie. (TNT 10-22-48, p. 1-article only)

Tacoma Country and Golf Club sponsored an Easter egg hunt at the club grounds and facilities on Easter morning. Children of club members gathered after attending Easter services to search for eggs and candy. Dinner party honoring Alexander Baillie at Tacoma Country & Golf Club, Tribune, E. Knight. Alexander Baillie was one of the founders of the Tacoma Country & Golf Club in 1894 and was the club's first president. He is seen in the upper left corner next to Reno Odlin, then president of Puget Sound National Bank, holding a microphone as part of his toastmaster duties. The banquet held in his honor was expected to draw more than 150 guests.

Tacoma Country Club, Grand Reopening. Four couples standing on staircase in older building, turned balusters supporting the stair railing. Three of the women are wearing fox fur stoles. The country club celebrated its grand reopening on March 30, 1952, when members flocked to see the new furnishings, paintings and general refurbishment of the stately structure. Tacoma Country Club, Grand Reopening. The venerable Tacoma Country & Golf Club had been closed for several months while undergoing refurbishing. It celebrated its grand reopening on March 30, 1952, with hundreds of members and guests in attendance. Pictured above in the club's main room were (left to right) club president L.B. Macdonald, Mrs. Macdonald, Mrs. Charles Devlin and Mr. Devlin. The ladies are smiling at Mr. Devlin's conversation while Mr. Macdonald looks on rather solemnly. The Devlins had traveled quite a distance from their new home near Edmonds to attend the gala festivities and see old friends. (TNT 4-6-1952, D-1)

These caddies put in long days on the greens of the Tacoma Country & Golf Club in Lakewood during the 21st annual Northwest Lumbermen's Golf Tournament held in August of 1941. There were 115 individual entries and numerous match plays. Robert Studebaker of Shelton won the golf championship with a net 69 over Tacoman Corydon Wagner. These six unidentified golfers were just a fraction of the participants in the Northwest Pro-Presidents golf tournament held at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club on April 28, 1972. Western Washington golf professionals and club presidents teed off in twosomes at the one-day tournament. In 1972 the Northwest Pro-Presidents golf tournament was subdivided into three parts; each of the three branches of the northwest section of the PGA would have its own tournament. Tacoma Mayor Val Fawcett with woman believed to be his wife Linda at Gyro Club District Convention function at Tacoma Golf and Country Club in August of 1946. February, 1964, saw continuing construction of the new clubhouse at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club on Gravelly Lake Drive. Workers are in the process of framing the large building while a crane lifts a heavy beam. The Tacoma Country & Golf Club, situated on 237 acres on the shores of American Lake, is the oldest continuing country club west of the Mississippi. Its stately clubhouse was gutted by fire in 1961. Tacoma Country & Golf Club. Construction has been completed on the new Tacoma Country & Golf Club in August, 1965. Built on two levels, the new (third) clubhouse replaced a 50-year-old structure. Coincidentally, both the original clubhouse and its replacement, known as the "Grand Old Lady," were destroyed by fires. Alexander Baillie, second from left, was honored during a banquet held at the Tacoma Country & Golf on October 22, 1948. He is seen here with several members of the golf club wishing him well. Mr. Baillie was born in Breckin, Forfashire, Scotland on September 9, 1859. He came to Tacoma in 1888 and was employed by Balfour Guthrie Shipping Company. The venerable Scotsman was one of the founders of the Tacoma Country & Golf Club and he served as its first president in 1894.
