Four new Dodge trucks from the Irwin Jones Motor Company are parked in front of the Diamond F Meat Company. The DeLuxe "Route Van" bodies were designed, developed and built in Tacoma by the Irwin-Jones Motor company in their truck center. Ordered by Walt Dunlop, truck division. The working areas of the kitchen are lined against opposing walls with light-colored, shiny surfaced cabinets above and below the working surfaces. The walls are also light colored and the floor covering is a muted, light shade. Venetian blinds cover the windows, one over the sink and one in the breakfast nook. A rotary dial telephone sits on the counter with only a cookie jar to join it. A door at the back of the kitchen is closed.

This photograph from February, 1950, shows part of the engine rebuilding shop at TAM Engineering Corp, 3033 So. Lawrence St. Four workmen are assembling and bench testing rebuilt Ford "flathead" V8 engines. The TAM plant was the most modern Ford Authorized engine rebuilding plant in the Pacific Northwest. By 1950, they had already rebuilt over 50,000 engines and small parts for dealers in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. The Right Reverend Stephen Fielding Bayne, Jr. in Raynor Chapel at Annie Wright Seminary. Photo taken for The Shield, Annie Wright Seminary's yearbook, 1950 issue. In 1959, in a surprise move, Rt. Rev. Bayne was elected to head the world wide, 40 million member Anglican Communion with headquarters in London. In a new position created for him, he would coordinate activities of 15 different autonomous churches, including the Episcopal Church of the United States. He would operate as spokesman and leader of the world organization, in hopes of unifying all of its diverse factions. Rt. Rev. Bayne had headed the diocese of Western Washington in Olympia for 12 years. At 52 years of age, Rt. Rev. Bayne had also previously served as a reporter on the Wall Street Journal, as a Navy chaplain and as the Chairman of the Department of Religion at Columbia University. A native of New York City, he was educated at Amherst, ordained in 1932 and consecrated as the Bishop of Olympia in 1947. He was well known as a speaker, famous for his wit and sense of humor. Jack Boyle of the Lakewood Figure Skating Club. Jack Boyle and Patsy Hamm were Pacific Coast Senior Pairs Champions in 1950. Mr. Boyle was also second in Senior Mens Singles. A worker at the St. Paul & Tacoma Lumber Co. retail yard walks on top of a large piece of timber, preparing to hook up the hoisting machinery to it, and move it from the truck to a stack of lumber. St Paul's three mile long lumber yard was believed to be the largest in the world by the 1940's. St. Paul was a pioneer in the plywood industry, and also in reforestation.

Several Rucker Bros. trucks loaded with lumber at the St. Paul & Tacoma retail yard. The retail yard was the largest in the Northwest. Rucker Brothers Trucking was located at the retail yard, facilitating the delivery of the wood throughout the Northwest.

Beautiful Mount Rainier dominates the skyline for many miles, as seen from Yelm. This glacier covered dormant volcano at 14,410 feet above sea level is the highest mountain in the Pacific Northwest and the fifth highest in the contiguous United States. It is the crowning jewel of the 241, 000 acre Mount Rainier National Park, one of the most heavily used parks in the national system. The Park is known for its abundant wildflowers and wildlife, including elk, the elusive mountain goat and bear. The mountain was "discovered" by Captain George Vancouver in 1792 while exploring Puget Sound, however it has always figured prominently in Northwest native mythology and legends. TPL-8493
